“I WANT MY CHILD TO HAVE MORE FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH…” We hear this all the time from parents — but the truth is, very few people actually know what that means. “Functional” has become one of the most overused (and misunderstood) terms in the fitness industry. Like fashion trends, it comes and goes. 10 years ago, suspension training on a TRX was labelled “functional.” Now, it’s shifted towards HYROX-style training. But somewhere along the way, the basics got overlooked — probably because they’re not flashy, not trendy, and not made for social media. Here’s the truth: Strength training — using weights, bodyweight, and simple tools — is functional… when it’s aligned with the individual’s goals. At FFTA, we define functional strength as the ability to: • Move better • Run faster • Jump higher • Lift and carry with ease • Build real, usable fitness And strength training delivers on all of that. Exercises like: • Picking up a heavy weight from the floor • Sitting comfortably in a deep squat • Pushing weight away from the body • Performing a pull-up These are the foundations. Compare that to: Throwing a ball in a squat… Burpees over a bar… Do they have a place? Sometimes. But do they build real strength foundations? Very little. Master the basics first — under proper guidance — and everything else improves: Speed, power, coordination, and resilience. At FFTA, what we do might not always look glamorous. Students won’t always leave drenched in sweat or barely able to walk… But they will leave stronger, more capable, and better prepared for whatever they choose to do. Our approach is built on proven principles, backed by science and thousands of peer-reviewed studies — not trends. If you want to understand how we structure our sessions to build real functional strength, send us a DM. We’ll walk you through it.

“Strength training stunts children’s growth.” This is one of the biggest myths in youth fitness. There is no scientific evidence showing that properly supervised strength training stunts a child’s growth. In fact, research shows the opposite — when done correctly, strength training can actually support healthy development. Benefits include: ✔️ Stronger bones ✔️ Improved coordination ✔️ Better posture ✔️ Reduced injury risk in sports ✔️ Increased confidence & body awareness Growth is determined primarily by genetics, nutrition, sleep, and hormones — not strength training. The real risk comes from poor coaching, bad technique, and inappropriate loads, which is why education and supervision matter. When children are taught how to move well, lift safely, and build strength progressively, strength training becomes one of the safest and most beneficial forms of exercise for young people. Strong kids grow into healthy, capable, resilient adults. #YouthStrengthTraining #KidsStrengthTraining #StrongKids #HealthyDevelopment #TrainSmart YouthFitness StrengthEducation
